The Optimist Club of Tampa, one of Tampa’s oldest civic-service clubs, is composed of business and professional men and women.

Members meet for lunch, fellowship, and an informative or entertaining program each Wednesday at Noon, contributing additional time and effort to the club’s service projects and fund-raising activities in accordance with their interests.  There are occasional social activities involving spouses or families.  For those interested, there are also visits to other Optimist clubs, district and international conventions, and other activities.  Meetings are currently held at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel, 200 N. Ashley Drive (just S. of Kennedy), downtown.

Although varied, service projects are largely oriented toward youth work. Continuing or annual service projects include or have included:

•     Oratorical contest for boys & girls under age 16
•     Outings for kids with cancer to Zoo and Aquarium
•     Tutoring students at a low-rated elementary school
•     Sponsorship of Grade School Junior Civic Club: The Alpha Club
•     “Respect for Law” week
•     “Youth Appreciation Week”
•     Assisting the Salvation Army Christmas Cheer program
•     Christmas party for disadvantaged children.
•     Christmas gifts for migrant family children.
